Back in May, LBBA lead a Green Retrofit Charrette sponsored by the Claretian Associates. The morning wrapped up with a game of “Energy Jeopardy” and the winner took home a gift certificate for a free home energy audit.
Recently, energy consultant Jim Cavallo conducted the energy audit for the winner on a small frame cottage built in 1905 located on South Buffalo in the Bush neighborhood of South Chicago. The energy audit consisted of a blower door test, evaluation of infiltration, inspection with an infrared camera, and a report that detailed ways to improve the energy performance of the house. Jim’s findings suggest that energy performance can be improved significantly if the home is tightened by a minimum of 20%. The owner is applying to CEDA (Community and Economic Development Association of Cook County) for weatherization assistance for low-income residents.
