A Modern Concept Transforms a Rural Place

Rural Studio (RS) has been improving living conditions of the rural south since it was formed in 1993 by two of Alabama’s Auburn University architecture professors. LBBA’s Alabama native and AU alumni, Terran Wilson, completed her thesis work with Rural Studio. The plans students help create can be used by contractors and their clients to build affordable homes across the southern United States. RS’s most recent endeavor that started in 2005, the 20K House Project, provides energy-efficient, quality housing to low-income status residents for an affordable mortgage of around $100 a month. The greatest challenge is for each project to cost only $12,000 in materials, and $8,000 in labor. Check out what RS has been up to here.
