We are excited to announce cityLab 2017! In its 8th year, LBBA Labs hire high school students to research an issue facing a neighborhood and offer design recommendations through a current LBBA project. The focus of each Lab is developed in partnership with a community organization.
In partnership with Heartland Housing, cityLab 2017 engages five high school students and three college mentors in research around the redevelopment of the former Calhoun Elementary School into supportive housing. Over the course of the summer, the young designers will develop an asset map of the surrounding East Garfield Park neighborhood and conduct interviews with community residents to help inform designs for the building. For six weeks, the Labs interns will observe the site, meet with partners, develop architecture skills, and document their work. A culminating presentation will share data and designs with our client Heartland Housing and members of the community.
