Tierra Linda Passive House Tour
Yesterday Eco Achievers hosted a tour of Tierra Linda’s Passive House, the first multi-family Passive House in Illinois! Guests gathered inline outside of the mid-constructed project showing the completed STO Gold coat installation on the exterior sheathing. The tour began with Charlene Andreas, from the project’s developer LUCHA, introducing how the Passive House became a reality, the early steps in planning the development, and how the project was funded.
LUCHA’s belief that affordable housing needs to be not only cost-effective, but also a healthy place to live and one that is energy efficient is what motivated them to develop the high performing multi-family 6-flat. Building a Passive House has the potential to lower the cost of utilities and improve indoor air quality, decreasing the residents’ expenses and increasing comfort in their homes.
The tour continued with LBBA’s Dominik Soltys discussing some the unique features that make the Passive house different from the other buildings; followed by Lindsey Elton of Eco-Achievers explaining the PHIUS+ Certification Process. Be sure to check our News + Events page for upcoming posts for more information about Tierra Linda’s Passive House.
